By 2050, more than 70% of world population will live in urban areas, creating many challenges for the planning, development and operation of cities. These challenges call for ‘smart’ approaches to ensure that cities are optimized for economic activity, energy consumption, environmental impact and ‘the good life’. ‘Smart Cities’ shall support innovation and a low-carbon economy. As Cities grow to be almost twice in size will lead the vast majority of new infrastructure spending. Leading to this change, smart cities initiative look at instrumenting the cities- adding sensors, big data and internet of things to cities SMART. However for outcomes that cities seek should not only be SMART but rather be livable and sustainable. We should be able to use the data to make smart decisions also for generating, simulating and analyzing ideas related to design, or redesign of the city assets.
